We have arrived in Costa Rica...after a long day of travel! We are just getting to the blog now because there have been some complications with the internet. And now that we have completed our first full day there is much to tell you all about.

We are staying in the new High Performance Sports Costa Rica facility. It was recently acquired by Score from a fern farmer who built the hotel and then turned it over to the ministry. We have a beautiful view of San Jose and the surrounding area.

This morning was our first game with a final score of 7-1. Goals were scored by Liz, Erin, Amanda (2), Kate, Ruth and Vicki. The girls played really well together. The two highlights from the game were Erin's goal off of a punt from the goal she was defending and a bicycle kick by Steph to assist one of Amanda's goals.

In the afternoon we were able to stop by a very poor area of San Jose and played a quick game with teen boys that are a part of the kids club in that area. There were some little boys but most were 14-17. The girls didn't win that game but had a good time laughing and playing hard with the guys.

A treat this evening was to go to a pre-season game of Saprissa vs. Catholic University of Chile. Saprissa is one of the two top pro teams in Costa Rica. The final score was 2-0. It was an awesome experience to see everyone cheering , throwing streamers, lighting flairs and fireworks and some unique local characters. Photos to come tomorrow.
